Founded in 2001, The Lookingglass Junior Board has quickly grown to become one of the most influential associate boards in Chicago. Since its founding, the group has raised more than half a million dollars through special events and individual donations. With over 30 members from various professions, it represents the diversity, energy and enthusiasm that has shepherded Lookingglass to become one of the nation’s premier theatre companies.

The Junior Board supports Lookingglass through marketing, networking, and special events designed to garner awareness and raise funds. The group promotes Lookingglass Theatre Company to a broad demographic and assists in raising funds for the theatre’s operation, expansion and outreach of Lookingglass’ Education and Community programs, which encourage creativity, teamwork and confidence in thousands of students each year.

Lookingglass Theatre Company’s Junior Board is looking for energized and motivated members. Certain requirements must be satisfied to maintain a Junior Board membership. These requirements include both financial obligations as well as time commitments.

Financial Obligations

• Minimum personal contribution of $100 per fiscal year (tax-deductible, may be paid in increments)
• Purchase discounted Junior Board Subscription (includes outings to each show, usually with a pre or post-show reception) – $75
• Sell or purchase a minimum of four (4) tickets to Madhatter’s Ball (priced at $75-$150)
• Additionally, it is expected that members procure sponsorship dollars for Madhatter’s Ball as well as provide personal networks for purposes of Junior Board recruitment and audience development.

Time Commitment

• Must attend The Madhatter’s Ball
• Must attend or call-in to 50% of full board meetings
• Encouraged to attend other Junior Board events

Junior Board Night at The Last Act of Lilka Kadison Join the Lookingglass Junior Board at this critically acclaimed world premiere by award-winning ensemble member David Kersnar. Includes a pre or post-show reception, venue TBA.

July 29, 30 and 31, 2011
Volunteer at The Taste of Lincoln Avenue Members of the Junior Board will volunteer to serve guests at the wine tent at this annual neighborhood festival. Tips will be donated to Lookingglass Theatre Company

August 22, 7:00 pm
Student Performance – Lookingglass LAB See your impact on the lives of students first-hand by attending this performance on our main stage. LAB students use the Lookingglass method to create a completely new play based on a one-word theme.


Junior Board Committee

Each member of the Junior Board must serve on at least one committee and attend regular meetings. Committees include:

Membership – This group’s goal is to cultivate and engage new members of the Junior Board. The Membership Committee recruits prospective members and determines which candidates are best qualified to accomplish the Junior Board’s objectives. These candidates are then presented to the full Junior Board for consideration.

Marketing & PR – This committee is responsible for securing media sponsors for The Madhatter’s Ball. They also compose, design and distribute the event invitation, and collaborate with a public relations firm on event media coverage.

Event Logistics, Theme & Decor – This group is responsible for ensuring that The Madhatter’s Ball operates smoothly both prior to and during the event. This includes obtaining appropriate event licenses and insurance, as well as securing food and entertainment. Also responsible for creating and implementing a coherent theme for The Madhatter’s Ball. This includes set-up and take-down of food, decorations and entertainment.

Executive Committee – This committee is made up of the President, Vice President(s), Treasurer and Secretary, as well as Committee Chairs. This group is accountable for making final decisions about event date, venue and budget, as well as scheduling Junior Board meetings and events.
